Time to invest to look your best with a 20 piece Autumn wardrobe.
My mantra for transitional dressing is “Invest to look your best”.
Clothes that work well in your wardrobe during Autumn will also come in seriously handy in Springtime too, so you get double the amount of wear each year out of these pieces if you invest wisely.
I always recommend buying neutral colours in transitional seasons like Autumn & Spring. Think white or cream depending on your skin tone, camel, taupe, light grey, or khaki which will all work perfectly alongside a base look of black and navy blue.
You can add colour & personality into your look with accessories which are usually more inexpensive and can therefore be changed seasonally.
Where should you invest the most money?
Without a doubt your main outlay should be on a coats & boots. Budget to buy a new coat every year. If you stick to classics you will be able to wear them forever and make sure you invest in the best possible quality fabric that you can. It’s a more sustainable approach to shopping & will save you money in the long term as you won’t need to replace tatty looking items.
Here’s your handy cut out & keep cheat sheet:
- Neutral coloured wool coat – Think midi or maxi length to keep out the cold
- A waterproof coat – Mac or raincoat, ideally with a hood
- A lightly padded coat – For crisp weather dry days
- Cashmere Jumper – Either crew or V neck depending on your body shape
- Cardigan or sweatshirt depending on your style – Perfect for throwing on when the temperature dips * Thermal long sleeve t-shirts – You’ll thank me when you are toasty & warm
- Smart trousers or good quality leggings depending on your style
- Black leather trousers – A true wardrobe hero
- Jeans – You need at least two pairs, a slim & wide leg.
- A silk slip skirt or dress – Will layer beautifully and double as your festive season dress
- Shoes
- A sporty trainer.
- A covered toe flat think ballet pump, loafer or dressy trainer depending on your style.
- A pairs of boots
- A closed toe pump like a court shoe
- A dressy shoe for evenings out/festive season
- A pair of wellies
- Bags
- An everyday crossbody handsfree handbag
- An evening bag
- Accessories
- Scarves – Wool or cashmere that will last for seasons to come.
- Hat – Beanie or fedora depending on your style
This is the basic list of everything you will need to create hundreds of outfits. You can of course buy more than these items but be careful to not buy too much. The more clothes you have the more overwhelming getting ready is in a morning. Less is most definitely more.
