DRESS YOUR BODY SHAPE: How to make the most of your amazing figure!
Firstly, let’s start with the foundations of any good outfit. Underwear. The right underwear is such an important first step. I always recommend a professional bra fit to my clients. It is vital whether big or small, that your bust has the right support. I see so many women that with the right support, can lift and separate their bust to create more proportional definition between the bust and the waist, revealing that killer waistline.
Where can I go to have a bra fit?
I would always recommend one of the higher end retailers like Rigby & Peller. They will give you lots of advice not only on overall size of your bra, but strap length and ideal fabric too.
Once the right foundations are in place we can focus on dressing your figure.
Everyone, no matter what the body shape, has something great to show off.
Long legs, toned arms, great waist. It sounds clichéd but every body is beautiful, it’s my job to help you highlight it.
Want to know what body shape you are? Here’s a quick way to work it out. Stand in front of the mirror in your underwear and imagine you are drawing around your silhouette.
Are you in proportion with a small bust/hip with a gently defined waist?
You’re Slender or Athletic.
Are you slightly out of proportion with a smaller bust/waist & wider bottom half?
Then you’re a Pear.
Are you more top heavy, with a much smaller bottom half, usually taking a size smaller in clothes on your bottom half?
You’re a Strawberry
Do you have a curvy bust, curvy hips and a small often high waist?
You’re Hourglass
Do you have a full bust a curvier tummy with little to no defined waistline?
You are an Apple.
Once you know what your body shape is, dressing well can be made relatively simple with a few small steps. Here are some quick tips to get you started.
Slender or Athletic – Tuck in at the waistline with a belt to accentuate your gorgeous waist.
Pear – Add detail and embellishment to the top half of the body only and don’t forget to accentuate the waist. Wrap dresses in a good quality fabric or wide leg straight trousers will add balance to proportions.
Strawberry – Neat styles that are semi-fitted to the waist will help create a more hourglass illusion and don’t forget to show off those amazing legs in slim fitting trousers.
Hourglass – A neat silhouette is key, nothing oversized or fussy. V or scoop neck tops work brilliantly, as do a high waisted skirts, trousers or jeans.
Apple – Focus on styles that bring in your shape just under the bust line with tops that flare over the tummy and have a finished length no longer than the hip. Don’t forget to make the most of those amazing legs.
It can seem daunting at first but once you start shopping these formulas, you’ll show off your best assets and feel more confident in every way.
