How to Shop The Sales: The sales are a great time to pick up key capsule wardrobe pieces for less, so use this time well.
Right let’s get down to it! First things first, lets simplify the process and get you into your wardrobe to work out what gaps you actually have in your collection.
Missing the perfect transitional knit, trench coat, or even winter boats? Need a dress for an upcoming event or vacation? Now is your time to pounce!
Go through your wardrobe and really evaluate what you have and what you actually need. It’s usually less than you think.
Keep track. Get your phone out, or use a good old fashioned notebook and physically write yourself a list. The sales can be an over whelming place so you can see your list as your armour against it.
Once you have your list try your best to only deviate from it if the item in question, makes your heart sing AND crucially always use my 5 WAYS rule.
WHAT IS THE 5 WAYS RULE?
If you can wear that additional item 5 different ways with existing items in your wardrobe, go for it.
If that new item actually makes you think, “Oh, well, I could wear that if I buy this and that to go with it” put it back. It’s not worth the additional spend to make up the outfit.
If you’re anything like 99% of the population you will have items in your wardrobe already that have been barely or never worn. Focus on either making them work or getting rid of them. Set yourself a task (as I do for myself) and say to yourself ‘everyday this week, I am going to wear one new thing/something I have barely worn to make use of it.’ Every item in your wardrobe needs to earn its place or it gets replaced.
The sales are also a good time to pick up new season transitional pieces. These won’t be on sale but whilst everyone else is doing their best supermarket sweep impression in the sales racks, you can focus on the upcoming season and the pieces you need most. Think back to last autumn, what were you lacking or what has worn out and needs to be replaced?
Above all, remember: BUY LESS, WEAR MORE
